SHMBA Calling for Participation in Create Dreams for Children

Founded in June 2009, Create Dreams for Children is a volunteer organization aimed at supporting middle school students in poor, rural mountain areas with coaching sessions, books, sports equipments and tuition support.

In September 2009, 24 volunteers went to a junior high school in Huashi Town in Jinzhai County, Anhui Province (in Dabieshan mountain area), to teach four courses on the subjects of external world, book reading methodology, experiences sharing, and psychological coaching. Up to now, Create Dreams for Children has donated over 1,000 books and 110 sports equipment to the school.

In 2010, Create Dreams for Children plans to expand to 15 junior high schools in Dabieshan mountain area. By the end of 2012, it plans to cover 53 junior high schools in the DaBieshan mountain. Click here to see more details of Creat Dream for Children.

After review and evaluation, the SHMBA leadership team believes Create Dream for Children¡¯s program is one that alums would enjoy supporting. There are (2) ways that alums can be involved:

1.Participate as a volunteer coach ¨C Join the trips to facilitate one of the two courses:¡°Our World¡± or ¡°A Starting Point to a Happy Journey.¡±¡°Our World¡± introduces the students to the world outside of them and the opportunities that are available. An introduction to them about 5 continents, the languages, the cultures and trade dealings between China and these other continents teaches students that there great opportunities for them outside of their area.

¡°A Starting Point to a Happy Journey¡± is designed by one of our members,Ivar, who has a masters degree in Psychology from Zhejiang University.Over half of the students have parents that are living in other cities as a way to financially support the household. This class teaches students how to manage the stress of a fragmented household and compels them to pursue their studies.

The first trips will occur from April to June, each trip takes three days with one or two days over the weekend. Participants will cover their own trip expenses normally at 600-700 RMB.

2.Donate new or used books to the schools. SHMBA members can either order books from joyo and have them shipped to a designated location or mail the ?books themselves. Books should be appropriate for junior high school students. Books can be in either Chinese or English. Click here to see the book list donated by Creat Dream for Children in 2009.

As a group who have greatly benefited from advanced education, Shanghai MBA Alumni Association firmly upholds that giving back to society in the education arena is one of our key missions. We hope our alums can join us in this organization¡¯s activities to help underprivileged children change their fate.
